# Nanny & housekeeper pay calculator.

Log a shift the way you would in the app and see what it comes to, then what it adds up to over a week, a month and a year. Choose **Household** if you pay a nanny, babysitter, housekeeper, gardener or caregiver, or **Staff GIG** if you do that work for clients.

## Work out the pay.

The numbers stay in your browser. Nothing you type here is sent or saved.

## How pay is worked out.

Household Pay works out every shift the same way, in both profiles. Pay is the hours worked multiplied by the hourly rate, then any tip is added:

**pay = hours × hourly rate + tip**

If you choose to round up, the total goes up to the next whole dollar. A flat payment is just the amount you enter, with no hours behind it.

For example, a nanny who works 5 hours a day, 4 days a week, at $20 an hour works 20 hours a week. Each shift comes to $100, so the week comes to **$400**.

### Turning minutes into hours

Divide the minutes by 60. Fifteen minutes is 0.25 hours, half an hour is 0.5 and 45 minutes is 0.75. So 3 hours and 45 minutes is 3.75 hours. If you enter start and end times, the calculator does this for you and takes off any unpaid break. A shift that ends after midnight counts as ending the next day.

### Turning weekly pay into monthly pay

A month is a little longer than four weeks. Multiply the weekly amount by 52 and divide by 12 to get an average month. A $400 week comes to about $1,733 a month, not $1,600.

## What it leaves out.

This calculator shows gross pay only. It does not work out payroll taxes, withholding, deductions, benefits, or which overtime and minimum-wage rules apply where you live. Those rules differ by country and region, so check them with your local tax authority or a professional before you settle on an amount.

## Track it every week.

A calculator gives you an estimate. [Household Pay](https://householdpay.app/) keeps the real record: the hours each person actually worked, what is still owed, and every payment you made, with a receipt you can share.

- [Household](https://householdpay.app/household/) is for families who hire help at home, with one ledger for the whole team.
- [Staff GIG](https://householdpay.app/staff-gig/) is for nannies, cleaners and other workers who want to see what each client owes them. [Open the calculator as Staff GIG.](https://householdpay.app/pay-calculator/?profile=staff-gig#calculator)

It is available now for iPhone, iPad and Android, and you don’t need an account to use it.

## Questions.

### How do I work out pay every two weeks?

Multiply the weekly amount by two. If the hours change from week to week, add up the hours from both weeks, multiply by the hourly rate, and then add any tips.

### What if the hours are different each day?

Use the average shift length, or add up the week’s hours, enter them as one shift and set 1 shift per week. In the app, every shift is logged on its own day, so each one keeps its exact hours. [See how hours work in Household Pay.](https://householdpay.app/household/)

### Does this include taxes?

No. The results are gross pay before any taxes or deductions. Household Pay doesn’t calculate taxes either. [Read more about what the app covers.](https://householdpay.app/faq/#taxes)

### Is what I enter saved anywhere?

No. The calculation runs in your browser, and nothing is sent to Household Pay or saved when you leave the page.
