A clearer experience

Made to be
easier to use.

Household Pay uses platform accessibility features to help you read and manage your records. Here’s what you can adjust, and how to tell us when something gets in the way.

Last reviewed:

Choose a comfortable text size.

On iPhone and iPad, Household Pay uses Dynamic Type for app text. Adjust your text size in your device’s Accessibility settings under Display & Text Size → Larger Text.

On Android, use your device’s font and display-size settings. Their location varies by manufacturer. Some screens need more scrolling as text grows.

Navigate with a screen reader.

The iOS app includes VoiceOver labels and descriptions for controls, staff records, and financial summaries. Enable VoiceOver in your device’s Accessibility settings and move through the screen using its gestures.

On Android, TalkBack is available through your device’s accessibility settings. If a control is announced unclearly, or the reading order makes a task difficult, tell us the screen and control involved.

Choose a profile with any setting.

The first-launch screens that ask you to choose Household or Staff GIG have headings, labelled buttons, and a step count (“Step 1 of 3”) for screen readers. Each profile card announces whether it is selected. At the largest text sizes the screens scroll, so Continue stays reachable.

Switching later from More → Profile uses a standard confirmation dialog that screen readers announce in full.

Find an appearance that works for you.

Open More → Appearance to adjust the app’s theme. Try light or dark appearance in your usual lighting. Paid and unpaid records use text labels as well as color.

Your device also provides display and contrast options. Custom colors and some secondary text can be harder to distinguish, so choose a combination you find comfortable and report any text you cannot read.

Characters that keep the content clear.

Character backgrounds are static and decorative; financial cards and fields stay solid. Artwork shrinks when app text is enlarged and does not add screen-reader stops. Sparky’s short save celebration uses a static pose with reduced motion, has a dismiss control, and adds no sound. Disable his card and celebrations in More → Sparky companion; the human illustrations stay visible.

On this website, decorative artwork is excluded from assistive navigation, and names and instructions remain readable text.

Use this website your way.

Use the Skip to content link at the beginning of each page to reach the main content. Links and FAQ questions can be reached with the Tab key; Enter activates links, and Enter or Space expands a focused FAQ question.

Pages reflow for smaller screens and browser zoom. App screenshots on the Household and Staff GIG pages have text descriptions, and every feature they show is also explained in the text beside it. Focused controls have a visible outline. Navigation and FAQs work with JavaScript turned off, and the site respects your reduced-motion preference.

Where we’re still improving.

Some compact financial summary figures can shrink to fit at larger text sizes, and secondary text may be less distinct in certain themes. Screen-reader reading order and behavior can vary across app and operating-system versions.
