A simpler rhythm

A good place
to start.

From choosing your profile to a tidy payment history. Follow along on iOS or Android, one small step at a time—whether you hire help or do the work.

01 / Your profile

Choose your profile.

  1. The first time you open Household Pay, choose Household if you hire help at home or Staff GIG if you work in other people’s homes. Picking a profile doesn’t create an account.
  2. Follow Welcome → Choose profile → Your workflow → Meet Sparky. Granny Nanny represents Household; Maya and Jack the Carpenter represent Staff GIG. On the final screen, choose Bring Sparky along or Continue without Sparky. Both finish onboarding.
  3. Choose Try practice for a two-minute run-through, or Start using Household Pay to go straight to your records.

Practice first, without touching your records

The practice tutorial walks you through adding a person at 25 an hour, logging a four-hour shift (4 × 25 = 100), recording that payment, and opening the receipt or invoice. It uses your profile’s words and your chosen currency. Nothing in practice is saved, synced, exported, or shared, and you can exit at any step. Replay it any time from More (•••) → Practice tutorial.

To change later, open More (•••) → Profile and confirm the switch. Each profile keeps its own ledger; switching never moves or mixes records. See every feature for households or for Staff GIG.

Same steps, different words

The steps below use Household labels. In Staff GIG, the same controls read:

A familiar face along the way.

Granny Nanny, Maya and Jack the Carpenter.

Household: Granny Nanny accompanies your people, hours and payment records. Staff GIG: Maya and Jack appear together around your profile; Maya accompanies hours, and Jack accompanies payments and reports.

The soft background artwork is always visible. Sparky is optional. Choose during onboarding, or open More → Sparky companion to enable or disable him. When enabled, he appears below your overview metrics and adds a brief celebration after successfully saving new hours or payments.

The companion choice is saved locally and applies to both profiles. It is excluded from ledger exports and app cloud sync. Shared documents keep their usual format. There are no chores, streaks or pet-care tasks.

02 / Your people

Add your staff or clients.

  1. Open Staff and choose Add staff—or, in Staff GIG, Clients → Add client (the plus button on iOS).
  2. Enter the name, role—in Staff GIG, what they hire you for—and hourly rate. Add a usual schedule, contact number, or notes if you need them.
  3. Save. Repeat for each person you pay, or each home you work in.

Before entering amounts, check More (•••) → Currency. One currency applies to your records. Changing it relabels existing amounts; it does not convert them.

03 / The work

Log a shift, your way.

  1. Open Hours → Log Hours (the plus button on iOS), then choose a staff member or client and the work date.
  2. Enter total hours or the start and end times. On iOS, these entry methods are called Hours and Times.
  3. Check the rate, any tip or rounding adjustment, and the total. Save the shift.

Working right now?

Use the live punch clock on the Hours screen. Select a staff member or client and start the timer. On iOS, finish with End & Save. On Android, choose Punch Out & Review, check the result, then Save shift. Active timers stay on the device, and in the profile, where you started them.

A saved shift records work owed; it does not send money. Use Single payment on Android or the Payment entry method on iOS for a flat work amount instead of hourly wages.

04 / Payday

Record what you paid.

  1. Pay—or get paid—through your usual payment method, outside Household Pay.
  2. Open Payments → Record Pay and select the staff member. In Staff GIG, choose Record received and select the client.
  3. Review the unpaid shifts selected for settlement. Check the amount, tip, date, payment method, and any notes.
  4. Choose Save on iOS or Save payment on Android. The linked shifts are marked paid and the payment appears in the ledger.

05 / A clear record

Share a receipt or invoice.

  1. Find the payment in the Payments ledger and open its Receipt (Invoice in Staff GIG).
  2. Review the recipient or client, amount, date, and work covered.
3. Use the receipt’s share action and choose a recipient or save location from your device’s sharing options.

Receipts and invoices are shared as images. To send a breakdown of unpaid work instead, open the person or client and choose Statement, then share it as an image, PDF, or text. Check the recipient before sending; deleting a payment later cannot recall a shared copy.

06 / The bigger picture

Take your records with you.

  1. Open the More (•••) menu and choose Export data (Export my work in Staff GIG).
  2. On iOS, choose Share CSV (ZIP) or Share PDF Report. On Android, choose Share CSV or Share PDF.
3. Wait for the file to finish, then use the sharing options to save or send it.

Exports contain the profile you’re using: all of its staff or clients, shifts, payments, and reminders—never the other profile’s records. Filters in Reports do not limit an export. PDF and CSV exports are for reading and sharing; use Backup & restore for a file you can restore in the app.

07 / Your choice

Set up optional sync.

iPhone & iPad

Open More (•••) → iCloud sync and turn on Sync with iCloud. Use the same Apple Account on your Apple devices and check the status shown in the app. An internet connection and available iCloud storage are needed. iCloud sync covers both profiles, and each keeps its own ledger.

Android

In the Household profile, open More → Cloud sync → Connect Google Account and allow the requested Google Drive access. Google Drive sync isn’t available in Staff GIG; keep an encrypted backup of that profile instead. Choose Sync now to send changes and check the status. Restore from Cloud replaces local records with the cloud snapshot, so read the confirmation carefully.

Both features are optional. They use separate cloud services and do not automatically sync between iOS and Android. Read the sync and device-change guidance before moving an existing household.

08 / Your data

Choose your privacy settings.

Open More (•••) → Privacy. Share usage data sends anonymous app events and crash reports that help fix problems; it never includes names, phone numbers, notes, or amounts. Turn it off at any time. Read the privacy policy.
