Household Pay
Privacy policy.
Your household records deserve care. Here’s what Household Pay stores, when information may leave your device, and the choices you have.
Effective and last updated:
1. About this policy
Household Pay is provided by Juan Mosquera (“we,” “us,” or “our”). This policy covers the Household Pay apps for iOS and Android, the householdpay.app website, and communications you send to us.
Household Pay helps you track hours, wages, payments, and reminders for work in the home, either as a household that hires staff (the Household profile) or as someone who works for households (the Staff GIG profile). Each profile keeps its own records on your device. The apps work without a Household Pay account, and their recordkeeping features work offline. You can also choose to enable iCloud sync using your Apple Account on iOS or Google Drive sync using your Google Account on Android. These optional features and encrypted backup files are described below.
2. Records you enter
The information you enter is stored on your device. Depending on the features you use, it can include:
- Staff details (Household): names, roles, optional phone numbers and notes, active status, hourly rates, work and payment schedules, and default tips or flat payments.
- Client details (Staff GIG): the same kinds of fields for the households you work for, including what they hire you for and your billing schedule.
- Work records: dates, shift start and end times, hours worked, running punch-clock sessions, notes, calculated wages, tips, rounding adjustments, and paid or unpaid status.
- Payment records: amounts, dates, payment-method labels, tips, hours covered, notes, and receipt references.
- Reminders and settings: reminder titles, schedules, associated staff or clients, notification status, the profile you chose, and appearance preferences.
Staff and client phone numbers are entered by you; the app does not read your device’s address book. Only enter information you are authorized to keep, and let the people you record know how you use their details. Avoid putting unnecessary sensitive information in notes.
3. How information is used
The app uses your records on your device to calculate amounts due, organize work and payment history, generate reports and receipts, schedule reminders, and remember your settings. Your household records are not automatically sent to us.
Household Pay records payments made outside the app. It does not transfer money, connect to your bank, or request bank credentials or payment-card numbers. Labels such as Cash, Bank Transfer, or Venmo describe how you recorded a payment; they do not connect the app to those services.
We do not sell or rent personal information, use your household records for advertising, or track you across other companies’ apps and websites. The apps have no advertising features.
Usage and diagnostic data: to find crashes and understand which features are used, the apps send us app events (for example, that a shift was logged, that a payment was recorded and with which payment-method label, or that a report was exported as PDF, and, on iOS, which profile was in use), crash and error reports, and, on iOS, diagnostic logs. These include the app and operating-system versions, device model, language and region settings, and a persistent random identifier that lets us group events from the same app installation. This identifier is not linked to your name, Apple or Google Account, or advertising identifier. They never include staff or client names, phone numbers, notes, amounts, or other records you enter. Our PostHog project discards client IP addresses from stored events, and its GeoIP location enrichment is disabled. We do not use this analytics data to work out your location. You can turn it off at any time under More → Privacy → Share usage data.
4. Sharing and other services
You can choose to share receipts, invoices, staff or client statements, PDF reports, or CSV exports through your device’s sharing tools. Exports cover the profile in use and may include staff or client contact details, notes, hours, payments, and reminders. Review the contents and recipient before sharing.
When you save or send a file to another app, person, or service, that recipient handles its copy under its own policies. We cannot recall shared files or delete copies held by recipients. Export files are not password-protected by Household Pay.
Apple, Google, your device manufacturer, and services you choose may process information when distributing the app, providing backups, handling diagnostics enabled in your device settings, delivering shared files, or, when enabled, providing iCloud or Google Drive sync. Their privacy policies apply to those activities. Those services may process information outside your country.
PostHog, Inc. processes the apps’ usage and diagnostic data for us as a service provider, on servers in the United States. It may use that data only to provide its service to us.
For information we receive through support or website operations, service providers may process it to deliver email or host and secure the website. We may also disclose information we hold when legally required or necessary to address fraud, abuse, or threats to safety. This does not give us access to records stored only on your device.
5. Optional cloud sync, backups, and security
On iOS, you can choose to enable iCloud sync. When enabled, Household Pay uses Apple’s private CloudKit database to keep your records—both profiles, each kept separately—available on your iOS devices signed in to the same Apple Account. This is optional, does not create a Household Pay account, and is not available in the Android app. Apple processes iCloud data under its own privacy policy; we do not have access to your private CloudKit database.
On Android, optional Google Drive sync copies Household profile records, including staff names, phone numbers, notes, rates, shifts, payments, and reminders, to private app storage in your Google Account. Staff GIG records are not synced to Google Drive. Google provides the storage and processes data under its own policies. You grant the app access to its private Drive app-data area, separate from your normal Drive files. The app may retain your connected account’s name and email to show which account is in use. You can disconnect from the Cloud sync screen and choose whether to keep or delete the cloud copy.
Both apps can create a passphrase-encrypted backup containing the staff or clients, shifts, payments, and reminders of the profile in use. You choose where to save or send the archive. The app does not save the passphrase, and we cannot recover it. These archives are separate from PDF/CSV exports, cloud sync, and operating-system backups.
Your operating system may also include Household Pay data in cloud backups, computer backups, or transfers to a new device, depending on your settings. Android permits app-data backup; iOS backups may include local app data. Manage cloud sync, backup storage, restoration, and deletion through the app and your Apple, Google, or device settings. Restoring an older backup may restore records you previously deleted. We cannot access or remove backups or cloud data in your personal accounts.
The app relies on the operating system’s app storage protections. Protect your device with a passcode, keep its software updated, and store exports securely. Anyone with access to your unlocked device or shared files may be able to read the records. No storage or transmission method is completely secure.
6. Reminders and permissions
If you enable payment or billing reminders and allow notifications, Household Pay schedules them on your device. Notifications may show staff or client names, roles, hours, and amounts due, including on your lock screen depending on your settings.
You can disable or delete reminders in the app, change notification permission, or hide notification previews in your device settings. Turning notifications off does not delete your work or payment records. The current app does not request access to your contacts, camera, microphone, or precise location.
7. Website and support
Cookies and website analytics
Analytics is off by default. The banner offers Accept analytics and Reject analytics. Until you accept, we do not load the Google Analytics tag or send website analytics information to Google. You can use the website either way.
After you accept, we use Google Analytics to understand how visitors find and use householdpay.app and improve the website. The Google tag loads from Google and sends website usage information, such as page views, download-link clicks, screen-preview choices, successful form submission counts, referral sources, browser and device information, and cookie identifiers, to Google. Google Analytics uses first-party cookies to distinguish visits. Visiting the website does not give Google Analytics access to staff, client, hours, or payment records inside the mobile app. Advertising consent remains disabled.
- _ga: an optional Google Analytics cookie that distinguishes visitors. It expires after up to 180 days and can be renewed during visits where analytics is enabled.
- _ga_<container-id>: an optional Google Analytics cookie that maintains session information. It expires after up to 180 days and can be renewed during visits where analytics is enabled.
- Your cookie choice: necessary browser storage remembers acceptance or rejection for 180 days, then asks again on a subsequent visit. This preference is stored on your device and is not sent to Google. If browser storage is unavailable or you clear it, we ask again and analytics stays off until you accept.
Select Cookie settings in the footer of any page to review or change your choice. Selecting Reject analytics after acceptance stops further website measurement, removes the Google Analytics cookies accessible to this site, and reloads the page with analytics blocked. It does not erase information already sent to Google. Cookie lifetimes are separate from the retention of analytics reports.
Google processes website analytics information under its own policies. Read Google’s Privacy Policy and how Google uses information from sites that use its services. You can manage or delete cookies in your browser or use Google’s Analytics opt-out browser add-on. The app’s More → Privacy → Share usage data setting controls app analytics separately and does not control website analytics.
Launch updates and customer feedback
If you sign up for iOS launch updates, we receive your email address, optional profile choice, and permission to send launch emails. We use these to send the updates you requested. You can unsubscribe or request deletion by emailing support@householdpay.app.
If you submit feedback, we receive your message, optional profile choice and reply email, and any permission you give to publish an anonymous quote. We use feedback to improve the app and respond where appropriate. Publication permission is optional; we only publish feedback with permission and remove identifying details. You can withdraw that permission by contacting us.
Netlify processes and stores website form submissions on our behalf. These forms work whether you accept or reject analytics. We do not send entered email addresses, feedback messages, or other form contents to Google Analytics. Avoid including private staff, client, or payment records. Form information is retained only as long as needed for its stated purpose; you can request deletion.
Serving a web page requires technical request information such as your IP address, requested URL, browser information, and request time. The hosting provider may process or retain this information in access or security logs to deliver the site, diagnose problems, and prevent abuse.
If you email us, we receive your email address, the contents of your message, and any attachments or details you choose to provide. We use them to respond to your request and troubleshoot issues. Email providers process these messages for delivery and storage. Please remove staff details and other sensitive information from screenshots or files unless they are needed for your request.
8. Retention and deletion
App records: records remain in the app until you delete them or remove its local data. Use the available edit and delete controls to manage individual records. Deleting a staff member or client also removes their associated hours and payment records; marking someone inactive does not delete their history. Deleting records in one profile does not affect the other.
All local data: on Android, use your device’s app settings to clear Household Pay’s storage or uninstall the app. On iOS, choose Delete App to remove the app and its local data; Offload App keeps its documents and data. There is no Household Pay account to close, and we cannot remotely recover or delete your local records or cloud data in your personal accounts.
Exports, backups, and sync: deleting an app record does not delete files you previously exported, temporary export copies, files held by recipients, or existing device backups. If you use cloud sync, manage records and copies through the app and your Apple or Google account settings. On Android, Cloud sync → Disconnect offers a choice to keep the Drive copy or delete it. Uninstalling or simply turning sync off does not delete every cloud copy. Delete encrypted backup archives separately from the places you saved them; restoring one replaces the records of the profile it belongs to. Remove saved exports separately and manage backup copies with the backup provider. Temporary export files may remain in the app’s cache until cleared by the app, the operating system, or removal of the app’s local data.
Usage and diagnostic data: we keep it only as long as needed to analyze app usage and fix problems, and then delete it. Turning off Share usage data stops further collection. Because this data is not linked to your identity, we generally cannot single out what a particular device has already sent.
Support and website information: we retain information we receive only for as long as needed to handle the request, operate and protect the service, resolve disputes, or meet applicable legal obligations. Retention depends on the purpose and any applicable requirements; backup and service-provider copies may follow their own retention cycles. You can request deletion of information you have sent us using the contact below.
9. Your choices and rights
You can review and update records in the app, export them, delete them, and control reminders, cloud sync, backups, and usage and diagnostic data (More → Privacy). If a household has entered information about you, contact that household to access or correct the records it controls; we do not maintain a central, searchable copy of its staff database. Likewise, a worker who records you as a client in Staff GIG keeps those records on their own device. Cloud sync data, when enabled, is held in the household’s own Apple or Google account.
Depending on where you live and the law that applies, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of personal information we hold about you, restrict or object to its use, or withdraw consent where processing relies on consent. You may also have the right to complain to your local data-protection authority.
Contact us to exercise rights relating to information we hold, such as support correspondence. We may need to verify your identity using information proportionate to the request, and will respond as required by applicable law. A request to us cannot change records or copies controlled solely by you, another household, or a third-party service.
10. Children’s privacy
Household Pay is intended for adults keeping records of household work and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly solicit personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us so we can address it and delete information we hold where appropriate.
11. Policy changes
We will update this page when our data practices change and revise the effective date above. If a change requires additional notice or consent under applicable law, we will provide that notice or request consent before applying the change.
12. Contact us
